Aargau’s award of sponsorship for a young puppet theatre company
At the 16th Figura Theatre Festival 2024 in Baden, the Government Council of the Canton of Aargau awarded the "Grünschnabel" prize for young puppet theatre for the eleventh time on the stage of the Kurtheater.
The prize, worth CHF 10,000, went to Moritz Praxmarer (CH) for the outstanding production THE STORY OF LARRY.
The prize is awarded to a young stage or individual artist who is at the beginning of a professional career and works with expressive forms in an artistically independent and outstanding way.
The 2024 jury consisted of Christian Bollow, dramaturge at Stuttgart's FITZ Theatre of Animated Forms, Gunhild Hamer, Head of the Canton of Aargau's Cultural Mediation Office, and comic artist and illustrator Anna Sommer.
The jury justified their vote with the following words, among others:
"Praxmarer needs almost nothing. Tea bags, a little packaging and a cup are enough to sufficiently illustrate war, fragility, soaring, wilderness and even death. It's imaginative and well done. With cunning, intelligence and wit, Praxmarer constructs a formally coherent narrative space that transcends itself in terms of content and impresses with exceptional acting skills."
